  1. Halloween is over 2,000 years old, with roots all the way back to the ancient Celts. They believed that the boundaries between the living and dead were very thin on October 31. To ward the ghosts off, they wore costumes and masks.
  2. Candy corn was originally called chicken feed.
  3. Seeing a spider on Halloween is considered good luck.
  4. Nearly half of Americans say they believe in ghosts.
  5. Pumpkins and witches are the most popular Halloween costumes for pets.
  6. Phasmaphobia is the fear of ghosts (and the name of a popular spooky video game).
  7. Immigrants helped to popularize Halloween in the United States. During the Irish potato famine many people immigrated from Ireland to the U.S. bringing the Halloween traditions with them.
  8. Halloween is the second largest commercial holiday in the U.S.
  9. New York City throws the biggest Halloween parade in the United States.
  10. Skittles are the top Halloween candy.
