Music Recommendation: Cedric Burnside - Benton County Relic

Cedric Burnside

I highly, highly recommend you listen to Cedric Burnside's Benton County Relic. I came across Cedric Burnside while going through the lineup for a local music festival and have been playing his music ever since.

Hailing from Mississippi where he was raised by his grandfather (the lengendary singer/songwriter/guitarist R.L. Burnside), Cedric was born into the “rhythmically unorthodox” Hill country blues.  He grew up surrounded (and influenced) by Junior Kimbrough, Jessie May Hemphill and Otha Turner, as well as delta musicians T-Model Ford and Paul “Wine” Jones.

Even though Cedric Burnside has deep ties to the Hill Country Blues tradition, he brings the tradition into the present, without pretense and grounded in his own experiences.  Take a look at the videos below and you'll see why he gets such a strong recommendation.

Enjoy!
